I’m Kirsten, the owner, designer and cake artist at Sweet Avenue Cakes.
I have a fascination for creating sweet treats that look stunning and taste amazing. I believe that life’s precious moments are best when shared with family and friends, and I love to create edible works of art to compliment such occasions.
Food has always been a big part of my family life, with a lot of importance being placed on enjoying each other’s company and sharing the table. At 15 I took on a part time job in the kitchen at a little country cafe, which further developed my interest in food and later lead me to train as a chef. After finishing my training, I followed my passion across the pacific to gain more experience in the hospitality industry. While on my overseas adventures I realised that my true passion lay in the more decadent, sweeter side of food, and I ventured to Melbourne to train in the art of cake decorating and chocolate making. Eventually the call of home became too strong and I returned to New Zealand where I worked in Auckland as a chocolatier and cake decorator.
I have now settled back in my hometown of Hamilton to pursue my lifelong dream of running my own business making handcrafted cakes and edible delights. I have two charming little boys, and a wonderful husband who is constantly being roped into helping me with business projects (and who built my cake studio for me!)
